How much will 200 minutes a month cost you?
Since the average cell phone customer uses about 450 minutes per month, we chose 200 minutes per month as an amount that an infrequent cell phone user might require. This was the hardest level of minutes to review. At this level of usage there is quite a variation in how companies offer their minutes. For example, the lowest number of minutes Straight Talk offers is 1000 minutes. Check the notes below since there are a lot of variations in how companies offer minutes at this level.

Notes:
a. AT&T charges 10 cents per minute.
b. Boost Mobile charges 20 cents per minute.
c. 300 minute card.
d. MetroPCS only offers an unlimited minutes plan.
e. 200 mintues. PlatinumTel has a flat rate of 5 cents per mintue. This is their $10 card. The next card they offer is a $20 card (400 mintues.) Texts and data usage are extra.
f. Straight Talk only offers a 1000 minute plan and an unlimited plan.
g. 160 minute card for $30, 400 minute card for $50.
h. 200 mintue card.
i. Ten cents per minute. Note that US Cellular has a $50 one time activation fee.

Hi, my name is Bill. I recently switched over to a prepaid plan, but when I started researching plans on the internet, I quickly realized that most of the review sites were total spam. I put this site together to help folks find the best prepaid cell phone plans.
Dude, PlatinumTel rocks.
Page Plus has better per minute yearly rates for $80, $20 cheaper than P-Tel, and cheaper new phones at half the price ($40).
P-Tel has a free phone offer for $100, but it’s a crapshoot refurb that may or may not work. If it doesn’t, well, the cheapest replacement they have is another $70 crapshoot refurb. There goes the savings, you’re on the hook for $30 more than you would be at Page Plus and you’re still rolling the dice with another used phone. The $80 phone and a $100 plan costs $60 more than Page Plus’s $80 plan and $40 phone. Setting aside data and excessive texting, light talkers are still getting screwed by P-Tel’s high prices. If almost every other mobile phone service provider can offer phones under $40, if not under $20, then why can’t P-Tel?
I just bought my Dad a Platinumtel phone on the recommendation here, (this is his first cell phone) and it was pretty cheap. They had a special where the phone was $39 and it came with a free $50 minutes card. It’s 1000 minutes free basically. Even if they didn’t have that deal, the 200 minute cards are only $10. Yeah, the phone wasn’t anything special, but he didn’t need a fancy phone. He’s only going to use the phone for probably less than 100 minutes a month, so it’s a pretty good deal for him. I think he’s only used once in the last week – to call my mom on the other side of the house. 😉
